Representatives from Dundee yesterday planted a tree in memory of the late Dundee East MP, Ernie Ross.
Members of the Dundee-Nablus Twinning Association planted the memorial tree in Nablus, one of Dundee’s twin cities. Situated in the occupied West Bank of Palestine, Nablus was twinned with Dundee in 1980.
Mary McGregor, Dundee-Nablus Twinning Association Convener said:
“This is a fitting tribute to the memory of Ernie Ross. it commemorates his support for our twin city of Nablus and Palestine. His memory will endure in the form of the continuing relationship between our two cities.”
Nablus Deputy Mayor, Dr Husam Shakhshir commented:
“We will reinforce our relationship, not only between authorities and organisations but by people to people. Students, youth, cultural workers, emergency workers and others will reinforce the relationships and friendships between the people of our two cities”
Alongside the Twinning Association visit, Dundee Trades Union Council also visited the city, making contacts with trade unions in Palestine and signing a historic agreement with them to promote areas of mutual co-operation.
