Our Exhibition

An Exhibition to celebrate the historic twinning between Dundee and Nablus

Ours was the first official municipal twinning in the world with a city in Palestine. The people of Nablus are wonderful, and we hope to see more of them both here and in Nablus.

1. Nablus and Dundee: 44 years of twinning

We are so proud that Dundee was the first in the world to twin with a city in Palestine. Fortuitous, fruitful and fantastic.

2. Nablus: Geography

Dundee has a dramatic location on the banks of the Tay Estuary. Nablus sits proudly between two impressive mountains.

3. Nablus: History, Industry & Commerce

Like Dundee, Nablus has been a centre of industry and commerce. The history of Nablus is somewhat more turbulent, especially in modern times.

4. Nablus: The Nakba and Refugee camps

In 1948, Palestinian refugees fled what is now Israel. Many of them continue to live in Nablus. They long to return to their homes.

5. Nablus: Education and Palestinian students in Dundee

Education is a vital human necessity. It enriches Dundee to have Palestinian students here.

6. Nablus: Culture, Food and Religion

People the world over are similar but there are differences of culture, food, and religion. Learning about these and experiencing them is fun.

7. Nablus today

Life in Nablus is not easy. People live under a repressive Israeli military occupation which restricts their lives.

8. Nablus: Campaigns and Co-operation

Dundee-Nablus Twinning Association (DNTA) and FONSA work together with people in Nablus to make a difference.

9. Nablus: Visits and Delegations

Meeting people from our twin city is so uplifting. It is not easy for them to get here and our travel to Nablus is often hard. But it is worth it.

10. Our Activities in Dundee

Dundee-Nablus Twinning Association helps people in Dundee to learn about Nablus, to visit it, and to understand it.

You will find more information in each of the sections. Nablus is so rich in history and tradition that we can only scratch the surface.

The current attacks on Nablus are serious both for normal life and for commerce and education.

If possible, you should visit Nablus yourself. It is a wonderful city, with amazing people who are so warm and welcoming.
