Medical Centre for Askar Refugee Camp

Like Dundee, Boulder in Colorado (USA) is twinned with Nablus. Last year, their Boulder-Nablus Sister City Project (BNSCP) successfully purchased a fully-equipped ambulance for Askar Refugee Camp in Nablus.

Now, their latest campaign is to set up and equip a medical centre for Askar. They have already made significant progress in raising funds to finance this project. However, there is still some way to go until their $150,000 target is achieved.

George Newell, a BNSCP board member, is overseeing their new project.  In December he spoke to us via Zoom. He gave us an update on their latest ambitious project and their fundraising drive.

The clinic will have diagnostic tools and equipment, a dental clinic, and emergency medical treatment. It will have a small laboratory for urine and blood analysis, ultra sound, an x-ray unit, an emergency room, general medicine, and a dental unit. This all will contribute significantly to the ability to provide healthcare to the residents of Askar Refugee Camp and the surrounding area.

He also spoke about the role of Boulder-Nablus Sister City Project in building links with Nablus.

Following our meeting with George, DNTA has agreed to raise funds towards equipping the medical centre. We will post details of this soon and we look forward to furthering our links with BNSCP in solidarity with Nablus.

More information about BNSCP and its campaign is available on their website.
