AGM and Amjad Al-Rifai
This year we are having a hybrid AGM - so you can come in person to Number Ten (10 Constitution Road, Dundee DD1 1LL) or you can join our zoom meeting (for Zoom please register in advance here).
The meeting is at 6:30pm on Thursday 23rd June 2022, starting with our speaker Amjad Al-Rifai. He will be followed by the formal AGM business (which will be as brief as possible).
Everyone is welcome (but only members can vote and elect the committee).
Our speaker
Amjad Al-Rifai, a refugee from Yaffa, lives and works in the new Askar Refugee camp in Nablus.
Amjad is Director of the Social and Cultural Community Development Center for the eastern Nablus Governorate. Within the New Askar Camp, he is responsible for international twinning and a partnership with the French municipality of Échirolles.
He is also coordinator of activities and projects between the camp and various countries and seeks to develop strong relations between international and local community institutions.
Amjad’s talk will focus on the importance of twinning between the cities of Dundee and Nablus, including its camps. He will suggest possible twinning programs between Nablus and the city of Dundee, including environmental projects, scouting, and working with people with disabilities. With regard to the latter, he will talk about a proposed community garden project in the camp and its benefits to children including those with disabilities.
A political activist Amjad was imprisoned by the Israeli military Occupation for five years. He continues to advocate for peace with justice in spite of the current political situation and the continued harassment by settlers.
